About Shatayu

‘Shatayu’ is derived from ‘Shatayu Bhavah’, a blessing from the ancient Indian scriptures, ‘Live a hundred years’. ‘Shatayu’ is a non profit organization- a public service initiative by Govindbhai C. Patel Foundation, which is supported by Ganesh Housing Corpoation Limited.

It was evolved with the twofold objective of increasing awareness about organ donation in India, and broadening the mindset of people towards the gift of life.

For us at Shatayu, every human being is a blessed one!

We wish that all of you could live a hundred years!

Yes, we could die at any age, but we could still be alive, by allowing others to live through us! By giving of ourselves in the highest way possible. It is a harbinger of light, which hopes and plans to dispel all doubts and myths regarding organ and tissue donation, though awareness and educational campaigns.

As Albert Einstein has aptly said, ‘The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking’.

Dipak Patel Founder, Shatayu - The Gift of Life

Our founder, Mr. Dipak Patel was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in the year 2001 and was told that a heart transplant was his only option for survival. Fortunately for him, he got his transplant done with the help of a kind donor and his family, an able team of surgeons, and blessings of the people. He got a second chance at life and started living a healthy life. But not everyone is as fortunate. Millions of people await their turn for an organ transplant and many lose their lives waiting for a donor organ.

Mr. Patel was moved with this life changing experience and he believed that only heightened public awareness can raise the cadaver organ donations in the country. So in order to create awareness about this life saving miracle and encourage maximum number of people to pledge their organs he founded Shatayu in the year 2009 under the aegis of Govinbhai C. Patel Foundation. Supported by Ganesh Housing Corporation Ltd, Shatayu, is a public service initiative which aims to increase awareness about organ donation in India and broaden the mind-set of people towards the gift of life

Aims & Objectives

To build a foundation of public trust and confidence, and to instill a willingness and enthusiasm, in all Indians, to offer the Gift of Life through organ donation.
To offer every Indian the opportunity and the right to receive direct education about organ donation.
To educate the public and especially the medical fraternity through the mass media, public relations and direct marketing on issues relating to organ donation and transplantation.
To provide participation opportunities to individuals and organizations through a volunteer network.
To form an alliance with companies and service organizations.

Born with the concept of gifting life, Shatayu’s mission is to give light to the importance of organ donation & transplant and issues related to same wherein it offers direct education and supports research efforts to enhance the available supply.
